A Jesuit-run history research institution set up in the 1980s. It has been associated with a number of publications, seminars and activities. In recent years, its flag-ship programme is the History Hour event, which focusses on a wide range of subjects (not all hard-core history) and is held every month or two at approx 5.30 pm. The directors of this institution have included Dr Teotonio R de Souza, Dr Charles J Borges, Dr Delio Mendonca, and Dr Savio Abreu (incumbent). The events here are often thought-provoking and useful. Their library is another treasure trove, and could definitely benefit from being accessed by more persons. They have a website and keep those interested informed via Facebook too. The history hour events (and some other programmes) are free, but to access the library, membership is required. In the past five years or so, another prominent event organised by the XCHR is the Goa history quiz for school students, held around August each year. Although it is located just alongside the Bakibab Borkar Road (going eastewards from the Porvorim water tank, a major landmark), sometimes it can be tough to locate. I think the All India Radio staff quarters could be a useful landmark. Just across the road from that.
