This temple has been mentioned in Tamil prose in 600 AD when the area was ruled by the Pallavas whose capital was Kancheepuram. There are also inscriptions highlighting Chola contributions. One of the greatest saints of Hinduism , Adi Shankara also visited this temple. All in all visiting this temple is like taking a walk down a 1500 year old memory lane when Ancient India was truly a great place to live , learn and experience a completely fulfilled spiritual life.
