Vijay SjATMASANGA ......NGO, a unit of Auroville, Tamil Nadu, India is engaged in URBAN TREE PLANTING. Supported by several volunteers this is group of motivated GREEN ACTIVISTS. They commenced this campaign in 2014 and in the first year itself managed to plant and distribute over 10,000 tree saplings. Planting a tree sapling in urban localities is quite a cumbersome task. Public roads are ruled out because one has to work in tandem with various public utility services like Electricity, Telephones, Sewage, Water supply, etc. Most of these organizations are difficult to coordinate because they usually do not have proper "PLANS" and everything is all over the place! The ONLY OTHER OPTION is to identify PRIVATE lands that belong to individuals and institutions and also work with promoters of NEW RESIDENTIAL LAYOUTS. Anybody with available open spaces suitable for TREE PLANTING should go ahead and plant as many trees as possible.
