PARADISE VISITED ------------------------------ We had decided to take off for a vacation but were not sure where to go. Call it providence through a common friend stumbled on Hill Woods Cottage owned by Mr B. K, Machaiah, We arrived in Bengaluru Airport on 5th October 13, 2016 and directly drown down to Coorg. Our Man at the wheels was Mr Madhu who made the drive extremely pleasurable by filling in on the places breezing by. Around 4 p.m a rough 5 hours drive reached Hill Woods Cottage , Sowmwarpet. The First glance itself told us that this is really the Paradise one yearns for. We were met by Ashirwad affectionately called Ashi who took us to our room. Mine was a Double Bed with a small sitting space in front and overlooking that was the splendor of the Hills with the Beautiful Greenery and the Blue Sky with the Clouds flirting in between.. I would fail if I did not mention Anusha Mr Machaiah’s daughter who front ended our travel arrangements. We were then treated to some awesome coffee from their plantation by Ms Asha Machaiah affectionately called Asha Auntie and what followed in the next 6 days was Aunties Home Cooking of the finest Coorgi food one can have. One at that time felt in the real sense “Atithi Devo Bhava. In the evening met Mr Machaiah for the first time and one cant but help but admire this person. Starting from taking his Dogs Jimmy , Jupiter and Junior for the walks going to his plantation feeding the fish in his pond to taking care of the household needs He did it all without a shrug. My other companions from Bengal just mentioned Fish one day and Lo Behold Mr Machaiah had it for them the same day. The Home wine that he would serve us every day with a smile and enthralled us with information about Coorg. I had the pleasure of interacting with Ashi their son a soft spoken person who took me around the countryside to give me the feel of the place, We also travelled by bus to Sowmwarpet Town and had the pleasure of interacting with Mr Nambiar of Prabhat Bakery which is one of the oldest bakery. I can write pages on Hill Woods Cottage and the wonderful people but before I sign off need to mention Ajji meaning Grandmother and she is Mr Machaiah’s mother and Swami their ever smiling Man Friday who really did take awesome care of us. I have visited many places in India but after my stay at Hill Woods introspected that it is the people who make the place beautiful and not the other way around. Hills Wood is for people who believe in the bonding of individuals and not Dial a Bell for Service. The warmth that Machaiah Uncle , Auntie , Ashirwad , Ajji and Swami exuded cannot be captured in words and was a real humbling experience for me. We also met many of Mr Machaiah’s relatives and friends and their Hospitality just made me Numb with Gratitude. I wish the Wonderful People of Hill Woods Cottage the very best in Life and May God give them all the Happiness because they really deserve it. krishnakumar

Wonderful place in the middle of nowhere. People make own coffee, fruit juices, grow own vegetables and fruits. Area is very clean, nice smell. If you ask you get tour through their properties to see many amazing things - we were lucky and saw snake
