Anu SomayajulaWhat to say! We had been to Kailash & Mansarovar yatra with the Shrestha holidays but were totally dismayed with the attitude and approach of the tour officials. We booked for a Delux Tour entitling us for a through & through Land Cruiser travel all payed for including the down jacket ( feather jacket). However we were for a rude shock that we had to settle for a bus. Not only that we had to pay for the jacket( and lo! the money was not even refunded on return). The escort on the tour demanded money for every thing in such rude manner as to sound if we did not pay we were to fend for ourselves ( in a foreign country, with visas in the possossion of the chinese guide!). While booking we were assured of daily basic medical checkup and fitness evaluation. Barring once when the BP and PO2 were checked there was none throughout. Some people were left at base ( for health reasons ) while others proceded for the trek. However there was no medical aid availabe and no other facilities due to which one person at the base camp expired to the complications. What more! he payed for the oxygen cylinder to keep him going for a while. IS it NOT the responsibility of the organizers to look into such basic necessities for people in a far off foreign land who are totally dependent on them? Since no one I talked to ever spoke of such extereme callousness, I am not sure if people wish to forget the ordial and therefore do not speak of it or we have been the unfortunate ones to have such tour incharge! Anyways this was the attitude shared by other group incharges also who were clubbed with Shrestha Holidays for this particular trip. Lesson learnt is " prepare for Kailash yatra as if this is your final yatra " whoever your tour op may be.
