Most common ofcourse is as a packaging material, carpet backing, shopping bags etc. In Bangladesh and West Bengal economy it plays an important role. It is cultivated in both the places widely. But new uses must be found to boost the prospect of the industry. This research organisation at Barrackpore is unique of its kind and plays an important role in jute research.
