    The Village Janai is inhabited by good number of rich and educated families. The village is mostly inhabited by Brahmin people mainly Mukhopadhyay and Bandopadhyay dynesty are original havitants. River Saraswati flows on east side of village Janai . The village was ruled and controlled by prominent and famous landlords. The Palaces built by them has become legend in the surrounding area. Palaces of landlord Jagmohon Mukhopdhyay, Kali Prasad Mukhopadhyay, Chandra Kanta Mukhopadhyay, Hara Mohan Mukhopadhyay possessed 80 to 120 bed rooms each. Initially, Janai and Baksha was one village. Since seventh century Baksha became to be known as separate village. In ancient days both the village were served by two railways. One was owned and operated by private Martin Company, popularly known as Martin Rail, and the station name was ‘Janai’ the other was operated by Eastern Railways. Presently, Martin Rail is defunct, and now Eastern Railways operated station in the name as Janai Road serve the adjoining area including Janai and Baksha villages. The village Janai was famous for her rich , educated and generous sons. The palaces built by them were full of pomp and grandeur and became legend during those days. Janai Training High School is Co-education School Estd in 1850 by Sri Ram Narayan Mukhopadhyay,Later Sri Parbati Charan Mukhopadhyay did a lot for this School. Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar and Prof Bethun had visited several times for the welfare of this school. Janai is also famous for “Monohara”, the famous sweet. It is originated at Janai and still enjoys the monopoly.
