A very good temple.Situated at 15/1 Khagen Chatterjee Road in north Calcutta(Kolkata)’s Cossipore area is the Chitteshwari Sarbamangala Temple( simply known as Sarbamangala temple) that was built even before Saint Ramprosad’s time. The idol is of Goddess Jagaddhatri carved from neem wood with a lion at her feet along with a Shivalingam facing west. History says that this temple was founded by a great and valiant dacoit leader named Raghu.(Although there is an argument that the Chite Dakats have founded the temple, since the name of the place is Chitpur). One night the Goddess appeared in his dream and asked him to establish a temple and spread the message of her spiritual and divine powers all around the place so that he might get rid of all the sins he had done in his life. The next morning he went to the place and established a platform on which he founded an idol of the Goddess and regular worships began to be conducted by him…… Soon after many many years a priest named Ramsaran Simlai came in acquaintance with the place and the temple and fell in great dedication to the majestic goddess and her powers. He constructed a cottage in anearby village of Paikpara so that he could conduct daily worships and prayers. Now from him the Simlai’s and the Mukherjee’s have inherited the duties of the temple, that is performed alternately by them. Now there stands a majestic temple of the goddess where pilgrims from different places of West Bengal come to seek enlightenment. The idol initially faced south but now it faces west. It is said that once Saint Ramprosad was sailing in a boat in the holy Ganges and was deeply engaged in rendering a devotional song in the praise of Mother Goddess. In order to hear his melodious voice the Goddess herself turned from south to west and has remained so. The next morning the devotees found the goddess has turned around from south to west all by herself! So they constructed a new door facing the west. Both the entrances still exist. Front of the main temple is a court yard with a large Nath Mandir and a Hari Kath where sacrifices are made in various occasions in praise of the power of the goddess. The temple compound is surrounded by a wall. There are four more temples within the compound. One of Lord Ganesha ; one of Lord Rama, Laksman , Sita and Mahavira; another one of Lord Hanuman and the other are two joined temples of Lord Shiva.. Records also state that Sri Sri Ramkrisna had visited here many times…………
