    The town Hall of Berhampore, founded in honor of Sir John Peyer Grant (1859-1862), Lieutenant Governor of Bengal, is vested in trustees, one of whom Babu Dinanath Gangully, the veteran lawyer of Berhampore Bar Council. The house, which was converted into the Grant Hall, belonged originally to Mr. JMarion, Superintendent of Nizamat Palace. During the earth quack of 1897 AD, the old building was destroyed and a new one was rebuilt in 1911 AD. In 1903 Edward Recreation Club and Library was formed upon the initiative of Sir Maharaja Manidra Chandra Nandy of Cossimbazar and Maharaja of Lalgola Raja Rao Jogendra Narayan Roy. with other notable personalities of Berhampore like Baikuntha Nath Sen, Banabihari Sen, Radhika Mohon Sen, Nilmoni Bhattacharya, Ramani Mohon Sen, Kedar Nath Chowdhury, Damon Prasad Mukhopadhyay, Jogendra Nath Mukherjee, Dina Nath Gangully etc. Raja Rao Jogendra Narayan Roy donated for the re-construction of this club house. After independence in 1947 AD, the club house was named after the Maharaja of Lalgola as Jogendra Narayan Milonee. The library of this club was the oldest one, and have a collection of about 15000 bucks. The total area of the enclosure is 1.5 Bigha. There was a Tennis Court in the Northern Side of the compound.
